A portable projector for a budget-conscious student gamer
Client: Sam, student gamer
I designed this projector around a single client rather than a generic user — Sam, a student who unwinds with high-speed gaming in a small shared room. That meant a wide-lens display for maximum image size at short throw, simple one-touch controls for fast setup, and a form light enough to carry between rooms or to a friend's house.
CMF exploration centred on white, black and grey — a restrained palette that reads as sleek rather than gadget-y — with plastic chosen over metal to keep the product within a student budget. The final G3 form was selected from a concept matrix scored against Sam's needs, then taken through card modelling, CAD and rendering.
Along the way I pushed into software I hadn't used seriously before — Photoshop for rendering, alongside CAD and InDesign — and came out of the project wanting to tighten up my modelling technique and CMF research for the next brief.
